Cow Town is one proud Texan, but will travel anywhere to her new home. The students at McNamara Elementary School named their cow Cow Town as an acknowledgement of Houstons western background of cattle barons. Cow Town represents the diversified elements that make up Houston, the myriad aspects of the community such as the energy and shipping industries, the medical center, historical elements, and the city itself. This is one proud cow.
Although only two students created all the images, over 100 students participated in completing the work. While the student body of McNamara Elementary School is a diverse, cultural mix, the majority of them come from an economically disadvantaged background. Being able to contribute to this project heightened their artistic awareness in an unforgettable way.
